The Blue Microphones Blueberry consists of a Class A discrete microphone amplifier perfectly matched to BLUE's single pattern, cardioid, hand built large diaphragm capsule. First and foremost, the Blueberry has been designed to provide the commanding, intimate presence associated with the world's best (and most expensive) vintage vocal microphones. With its shimmering, detailed highs, smooth midrange, and minimized proximity effect (a bass boost inherent in all unidirectional mics), the Blueberry excels at delivering a vocal right to the front of the mix where it belongs. When processed with limiting and/or compression, as is standard practice for most pop vocals, tracks recorded with the Blueberry will be free of pumping, low frequency thumps. Acoustic guitar, hand percussion, drums, and other critical high end sources also shine in front of the Blueberry, gaining an extra measure of presence that enables the most delicate sounds to cut through a mix, even at very low levels. Designed to fill the needs of the home musician and the professional alike, the Blueberry includes the Series Two Shockmount and comes handsomely packaged in its own cherrywood box. Whatever your music, add a Blueberry to the mix and let your ears feast on the sound. IRiver

iriver (formerly iRiver, full name iriver Limited), daughter company to ReignCom, is a consumer electronics brand founded in 1999 and headquartered in Seoul, Korea. It is known for producing portable digital audio players, or "MP3 players", and video players. iriver's products commonly include USB Mass Storage, FM tuner and recording capabilities. iriver's first product was the iMP-100, a portable CD player capable of decoding MP3 data files on CDs in the year 2000. The current product range of iHP-100 (now named H100) Players (100, 120 and 140) are capable of playing MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis (with some limitations) , and WAV audio files. Viewing of text files is also supported. Models in the H300 (320 and 340) series are able to play MP3, WMV, Ogg, WAV and AVI video files (last two only with firmware upgrades) and are capable of displaying JPEG and BMP image files (which do not utilize the full screen dimensions unless converted to the appropriate dimensions/resolution).

Products

iriver H340iriver's range, as of September 2005 is as follows. In the case of hard disk and flash memory-based players, the amount of storage built in is given in brackets. Some models have been discontinued from production and retail:

Some of the iMP-Series are known as the C-Series in Korea.

Hard disk based players
E10 (6GB) (2006) It comes in white and black. It uses a similar interface to that of the U10 series. The device also features a remote control for the U10's cradle and a TV. H10: (5 GB, 6 GB, 20 GB--except Asia) (2005), available in 4 different colors (red, blue, silver and grey), 16-bit color screen, can record from Radio, Internal Microphone (Voice) or Line-In (Line in only with cradle, sold extra). The device is around the size of the iPod mini and is composed mainly of aluminum. The navigation is done with a touchpad designed by iriver. H300 series (2004), similar to the H100 series, but capable of transferring pictures directly from digital cameras and UMS-compatible devices such as flash drives, as well as showing digital images and XviD movies at 15FPS on a color screen (Video support is not available on US players with US firmware). The H300 also lacks the optical in/outputs that were on the H100's. Models: H320 (20 GB) and H340 (40 GB). It has recently been discontinued in favor of the newer, and, anachronistically, less feature-packed H10 series. H100 (previously branded "iHP-") (2003): H110 (10 GB), 115 (15 GB), 120 (20 GB), and 140 (40 GB). It has been discontinued for all territories.
Flash memory based players

N11 series: (128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB) "medallion-style" -- worn hanging from the neck. Features longer battery life than N10. iFP-1000 series: (256 MB) and 1095 (512 MB). European customers should be aware that several models are missing the FM Radio functionality available in other world markets.

Criticism of the U10, T30, T20 & T10 models after iriver's dropping of UMS support in favor of Microsoft's Media Transfer Protocol has been partially placated by the introduction of an official iriver Firmware Updater.

Open Face Helmet Styles - One For Every Preference

!±8± Open Face Helmet Styles - One For Every Preference

The open face helmet is a great style for both men and women. This is also known as a three quarters style. It is a protective head covering designed to help withstand impact to the head. The great thing about this type is that there are so many different configurations available! These are mainly popular within the motorcycle community but they also have their place with riders of all terrain vehicles and quad runners. Many laws require riders to wear helmets for safety purposes and these are certainly a great choice.

The design of the open face helmet is such that a hard outer shell (usually made of carbon fiber, Kevlar or strong plastic) covers the entire back of the head. Inside that hard covering is lining of polypropylene or polystyrene. This type of foam can withstand impact and help prevent serious head injury. The foam may then be covered with a soft material to provide comfort to the wearer. This style fits snug to the head and is help tight with an adjustable chinstrap. Some helmets come with a visor, while others do not. If the model you choose does not come with a visor or face shield, you will want to invest in some protective goggles.

A feature of the open face helmet that many riders like is the ability to customize it. Many of these helmets have snaps. You can purchase accessories that will snap directly on and are interchangeable. Some available customization pieces include snap on goggles, visors and shields. Other accessories that can be used with this style include speaker and microphone sets. These are particularly useful when communicating with other riders during a road trip. You can also purchase custom skins for your helmets. These skins instantly change the look. Plain black is now camouflage. Silver and blue becomes a flat green. The choices are endless!

Other styles beyond the open face helmet include the full-face. This covers the entire head including the chin. A visor that raises and lowers shields the eyes. These usually have vents on the chin and forehead, which help get fresh air to the rider. These offer the most protection, but they can feel quite confining to some riders. There is also the off road or motocross helmet. These are made to provide extra protection to riders that compete in off road events. The likelihood of a fall or wipe out is pretty good during these competitions and the riders need as much protection as possible to avoid concussions and life-threatening brain injuries. The flip up style (also known as 'modular') is a hybrid of sorts. It has the features of a full-face while offering a flip up chin piece. These are also called convertible helmets. Finally, there is the half-helmet. This is similar to the open face helmet although these rarely have any type of face shield provided. They also do not extend down to cover the back base of the head where skull meets base.

How To Choose the Right Studio Microphone For Your Recordings

!±8± How To Choose the Right Studio Microphone For Your Recordings

Choosing a microphone shouldn't be too hard, assuming that you know the differences between microphones and what you will be using yours for. Granted, recording your vocals should not warrant the same type of studio microphone as recording instruments. It's important to know what you will be using it for, and then going on from there.

A general rule is that dynamic microphones such as the Shure SM58S are exceptional for instruments and life performances. As a matter of fact, if you pay close attention to what most live performers use, you can almost bet, that it will be a Shure SM58S. On the other hand, condenser studio microphones are used for vocals or other soft recordings where details are extremely important. As you can see, having both type of microphones would be beneficial, but that boils down to your budget.

The condenser has a flatter frequency then the dynamic, which for recording vocals is a must. What ends up happening when you record on a condenser studio microphone such as the AKG PERCEPTION 220, you get a more clearer and accurate recording. The dynamic on the other hand, tunes out some of the details because once again, they are meant to be used for instrument recording and live performances.

The condenser studio microphone also requires a preamp or a mixer, which will provide phantom power of around 48 volts. Because the condenser requires the electric juice to run, the preamp serves as a booster. The dynamic doesn't require any phantom power, seeing as how it's a more rugged and less sensitive counterpart to its brother microphone, the condenser.

There is also another important thing to consider when choosing the perfect studio microphone for you - the pick up pattern. Essentially there are three different kind of "pick up patterns;" the omni directional microphones, the bidirectional microphones, and the unidirectional microphones.

The omni directional microphones pick up sounds evenly, so if you have a home recording studio, STAY away from such microphones. Why? It will pick up your TV, your neighbours TV, and your dog barking at the cat.

Bidirectional microphones on the other hand pick up sounds from only two directions, the front and the back. They are often used in radio interviews, which allow people to share a microphone.
Unidirectional microphones are the optimal for home recording studios. These microphones pick up sounds from one direction, and allow you to isolate sounds that you don't want to record quite easily. They also include the cardioid microphone such as the Blue Microphones Baby Bottle Cardioid Condenser Mic.

In conclusion, it all depends on what you will be using your microphone for. If you plan on recording instruments or performing live, then a microphone such as the Shure SM58S Vocal Microphone is your best bet. On the other hand, if you are going to be recording vocals and care about the detail and clarity of them, then you have to purchase a condenser studio microphone.

Vintage Microphones

!±8± Vintage Microphones

Vintage microphones are used for the purpose of intensifying weak sounds, by transforming sound waves into the electrical pulses. The year 1878 marked the beginning of carbon microphones. Vintage microphones are developed in various models and with varied features. Berliner and Edison filed for patents on carbon microphone. In the year 1910, E.Wente developed condenser microphones at Bell labs. By the mid 1920's, developments in condenser microphones made it possible to record films. The omni directional dynamic microphone was developed by Wente and Thuras in the late 1920's. Omni directional dynamic mikes were invented in the late 1930's. From then on, there have been several advancements in microphones. The equipments that were heavy and bulky have become lightweight and handy now.

Vintage microphones are one of the collections of microphones that were used in the olden days. Vintage microphones may be listed in chronological order based on the models: carbon microphones which came into being in 1878; the 394 condenser microphone introduced by Western Electric; the 4AA condenser mic introduced by Radio Corporation of America (RCA); the 618A introduced by Western Electric; the 630A developed again by Western Electric; the cardiod microphones developed by Siemens; the tubular microphone designed by Bell labs; the 44A, B, and BX velocity ribbon microphones developed by Harry F. Olson at RCA; the 77A , B, C, D, and DX unidirectional ribbon series; the 639A and 639B introduced by Western Electric. These systems are the various vintage microphones.

These vintage microphones are in high demand and therefore are very costly. People who could not afford it went in for the microphones bearing assorted brand names that surfaced in the American market. They were RCA type 77 models but with different crystal elements. Prices for these microphones are usually ranged around to .

Microphone parts and accessories are also available for collection purposes. Some companies specialize in reproduction of these rare accessories. Like other areas there are spurious manufactures in the field of vintage microphones too. One must be choosy while buying vintage microphones from markets.
